The medicine is only as powerful as the spirit in which it was harvested

At Iboga Forest, we hold a strict standard for the Iboga we serve. We do not buy from commercial brokers, anonymous online vendors, or poached sources. Every gram of medicine used in our ceremonies is sourced directly from Moughenda’s Village in Gabon, ensuring it is spiritually alive, physically pure, and ethically protected.

1. The Source: Moughenda’s Village

Our connection to the medicine is personal. It comes from the same land where our founder was initiated.

  • Single Origin: We know exactly where our medicine grows, who watered it, and who harvested it. It is cultivated in the sacred forests of the Missoko Bwiti community in Gabon.
  • Generational Wisdom: The Bwiti have been the shepherds of this plant for thousands of years. They understand the specific age, season, and time of day to harvest the root to maximize its alkaloid profile and spiritual potency.

2. Traditional Harvesting & Preparation

We believe that how the medicine is treated determines how it treats you.

  • Ceremonial Harvest: In our lineage, you do not just dig up a root. A ceremony is performed to ask permission from the earth and the spirit of the plant. Offerings are made. This ensures the “Spirit of Iboga” remains with the physical material.

Hand-Processed: There are no industrial machines involved. The root bark is shaved by hand by the villagers, dried in the African sun, and ground into powder using traditional methods. This labor of love infuses the medicine with the energy of the community.

3. Sustainability & Ethics

With the global rise in demand for Iboga, poaching has become a crisis. We refuse to participate in it.

  • Cultivated, Not Wild-Poached: We support the Bwiti’s own agricultural initiatives. By sourcing from their cultivated gardens, we ensure that the wild Iboga populations in the deep forest remain untouched and protected.

Reciprocity: We pay a premium price directly to the village—no middlemen. This income supports the families who tend the gardens, creating a sustainable economic loop that keeps the tradition alive.

4. Whole Plant vs. Ibogaine

We serve Total Alkaloid (Whole Plant) medicine, not isolated Ibogaine.

  • The Full Symphony: Science has identified over 12 alkaloids in the Iboga root (Ibogaine, Ibogamine, Tabernanthine, etc.). Nature created them to work together.

The Entourage Effect: While isolated Ibogaine is good for physical detox, the whole plant is required for the deep psycho-spiritual work. The synergy of the alkaloids creates a smoother, deeper, and more grounded journey than the extract alone.
